The iconic lightness of Air evolves through the freedom of the curve

The Air Roundy Bookshelf evolves from the iconic Air design, which for twenty years has redefined the concept of storage and display through a language of lightness, transparency, and visual reduction. In this new interpretation, the structure remains true to its essence: shelves appear to float in space, supported by glass in a refined balance between solids and voids. What changes is the design gesture: Air Roundy introduces the curve as a new compositional possibility, giving rise to dynamic and highly customizable configurations. Curves with different radii make it possible to create more or less enveloping solutions, capable of following walls, defining corners, and adapting precisely to the architecture of the space. Sinuous elements and linear modules interact in hybrid compositions, where Air’s iconic lightness remains intact while the form evolves toward a new expressive freedom.
A fluid architectural design for the space
A new freedom of design emerges thanks to curved elements with varying radii, designed to create compositions of different sizes and configurations. The curve becomes an architectural tool capable of transforming the way the bookcase interacts with the space. The sinuous lines follow the contours of the walls, define corners, create unexpected movements and enable a more personalised design.
Twenty years of iconic lightness
Twenty years ago, the Air bookcase introduced a radical idea: to lighten the structure, reduce its visual weight and give the space a sense of breathing room. The suspended shelves, supported by glass brackets, redefined the traditional image of the bookcase, transforming it into an icon of contemporary design. Air Roundy celebrates this legacy by taking the system in a new direction in terms of form. Lightness remains its defining feature, whilst the shape becomes softer and more enveloping, opening up new possibilities for designing spaces, both domestic and commercial.
