Liceo Scientifico Statale Filippo Lussana
Developed to make school as welcoming and comfortable as a home, with design used to educate students about beauty and foster relationships, the home-like classroom at the Lussana secondary school in Bergamo shatters the distance between the teacher’s desk and the students, aiming to create a more collaborative atmosphere in the classroom for growing and talking together, in a group effort. The design for the deconstructed classroom at the Lussana secondary school in Bergamo developed as part of the ImparaDigitale project, which aims to spread awareness of the need to change schools in tune with digital society. It is a space with unstructured hierarchies that does away with the concept of lessons with the teacher standing in front of the class, where technology does not risk isolating students from the world around them since it is used in a comfortable, colourful, dynamic setting that is experienced actively and that can be reconfigured to meet new educational needs and support new learning contexts.
The classroom, like the home, becomes a place focused on the well being of those who use it, ready to meet the needs of individuals and of the class as a whole. It is a dynamic, flexible design that uses modular furniture to create empathetic spaces and give shape to different situations: the desks and colourful chairs, which alternate with soft Obeliscus seating that can be used as benches or set against the wall, can be set up in a traditional educational arrangement or in a workshop configuration.
Comfortable armchairs and colourful Air sofas create a welcoming atmosphere like a living room at home, while the common areas, like hallways and corridors, are furnished with modular bookshelves and soft seating, just like in a private study. The result is an empathetic design that leads to the active rediscovery of space and that, together with technology, creates an environment for expressing creativity, talent and passion.
